Plainfield Service Unit 715
Plainfield Service Unit 715 consists of many trained, dedicated volunteers who strive to create an impactful Girl Scout experience for girls who live in and around Plainfield, Illinois. SU 715 was formed in 1992 when 3 service units combined together. In 2018, SU 715 won the President's Award.

The troop (volunteer-supervised group of girls) is based on grade level. Usually a troop is comprised of girls from the same school and same grade. However if there are not enough girls for a troop, then girls can group up with girls in a different grade or another school.

Daisy level: kindergarteners and 1st graders

Brownie level: 2nd and 3rd graders

Junior level: 4th and 5th graders

Cadette level: 6th, 7th, and 8th graders

Senior level: 9th and 10th graders

Ambassador level: 11th and 12th graders
Plainfield Service Unit 715 is part of the council called Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana (GCNWI). This is one of the more than 100 councils supported by Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA). That national organization is part of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

Girl Scouts is a youth organization for girls that was formed by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 after she was inspired by Robert Baden-Powel, the founder of Scouting.

WHAT SCOUTS DO:

WHEN & WHERE:

Meetings held 1-2 times a month (meeting about 1-2 hours long)

Meeting day and time will be determined by the volunteer troop leader and majority of the troop

Meet at schools, churches, public meeting rooms, leader's home, etc.

Troop goes on 1-2 outings (i.e. field trip) a month
-
Scouting year officially begins October 1st and goes until around June. Some troops start in August/September, and a few troops choose to meet in the summer.
COST:

$45 membership fee covers girl's one year of scouting
-
$30 adult registration fee is for the adults who want to volunteer (pays for background check)
-
Uniform and basic patches cost approximately $40-$60 (depending on style of uniform: vest or sash)
-
Other fees include special events and troop dues to pay for meeting supplies

Fundraisers like Fall Product and Cookie Sales help raise money

Financial assistance is available
VOLUNTEERS:

A troop needs two unrelated adults to volunteer as troop leaders (leader and assistant leader)
-
Parents can volunteer for other rules such as troop support, fall product manager, and cookie manager if they are interested
